Missing woman found dead; husband arrested on unrelated charge
A family is in mourning today after a missing woman was found dead on Wednesday afternoon.
Israel Ledesma, the son of Rachel Ann Guzman, 41, received a phone call from a family member breaking the news as we were conducting an interview.
Ledesma had just orchestrated a search party and drawn out the path they would take that stretched from Lubbock to Big Spring.
As he spoke with us, his family and friends held flyers with his mother's picture. Ledesma told us he was hopeful and said, "we're going to find her."
Moments later, the phone rang and Ledesma fell to the ground after hearing the tragic news.
After taking the call, Ledesma told us police were led to his mother's body in Big Spring. Ledesma dropped the flyers of his mother as his family and friends embraced one another in tears.
Police cannot confirm if Guzman has been found but they say a female body has been recovered in Big Spring and Rachel's husband Epifanio Guzman has been arrested on an unrelated charge. Epifanio is being held in the Howard County Jail.
The body was recovered near Scenic Mountain Hospital in the southwest part of Big Spring.
Lubbock police say they are working with local authorities to conduct an investigation.
Epifanio Guzman was arrested on a charge of indecency with a child.
Ledesma said he noticed Rachel was missing Sunday morning and began looking for her with family members. He said his fear escalated when he received a phone call from her work on Monday morning saying she was not there.
